Monitoring and control
Battery monitors, GX controllers, sensors and communication interfaces.
Monitoring your system
A battery monitor (shunt) measures the current going in and out to display the actual state of charge, as a percentage, and the remaining runtime. It is the most reliable indicator for managing an off-grid system.
A GX controller, such as the Cerbo GX, connects the inverter, controllers and batteries and sends data to Victron’s VRM portal: you follow your cottage from your phone and receive alerts.
Frequently asked questions
Why a shunt if the battery already has a BMS?
The BMS protects the battery but does not always display an accurate state of charge or history. The Victron shunt calculates the state of charge and integrates with the GX controller.
Do I need Internet at the cottage for monitoring?
Yes for remote monitoring (VRM): Wi-Fi, cellular or satellite. Without Internet, data can still be viewed on site, over Bluetooth or on the GX display.
